| When
a yorkie puppy leaves us to go to a new home we include a guarantee,
care package, a educational book, enough food to get you started,
the puppy is started going potty on pee pads, if weather permits we
take them for car rides so they get sick for us instead of you :O)
and also try to get them lead train, we do this around the ages of
four to five months of age... and we also raise them in our home.
We feel they do much better being raised in a home inviroment. |
| Yorkies
do not come into their heat cycles like larger dogs. They may come
in at six months but this is rare, most come into their first heat
cycle around the age of nine to ten months old. A reputable breeder
will not breed a yorkie until it is close to 18 months of age. By
this age the yorkie is mentally and physically able to puppies. |
| Yorkies
are sweet little angels but can learn or have bad habits. I think
humping is a instinct. If your yorkie is humping the first thing to
do is not permit it. If the yorkie jumps on your leg tell him NO!
Your yorkie will hump if he is permitted to do so. He can not hump
toys or people. If he has started this at a young age the sooner you
correct him by telling him NO! the better...... they are smart and
can learn the word NO quite fast.... it doesn't take much to train
a yorkie not to hump on things. |
| The reason for this is for the yorkies safety. Many breeders just feel that children are way to active and will hurt the yorkie by accident. Some children don't know how to handle a yorkie properly even though they have been taught. Breeders won't sell to families with children because they don't want their puppies injured or to die because of accidents or mishandling. |
| NO! Chocolate, grapes and raisens, are all toxic to dogs. Most people don't know that raisens and grapes are toxic but they are! Grapes won't only choke your dog but they can cause kidney problems. Raisens are worst because they are concentrated grapes. |
| A
yorkie should be at least five pounds in size if the breeder cares
about her yorkie. There are breeders that breed smaller yorkies but
they are only taking their yorkies lives in their hands. It is VERY
dangerous to breed a yorkie that is 3 to 4 pounds. Not only is it
dangerous but it is crazy to breed such a small yorkie. |
| We
do not believe breeding a yorkie under five pounds. Our yorkies are
five to seven pounds. Both parents need long-term care-what dog people
call conditioning-to produce the best offspring. Breeding involves
art, science, and total devotion. |
| We
feed Diamond Puppy Small Bite and Diamond Adult. The Diamond company
carries a good dog food not to mention their food is safe both wet
and dry. I called right away when they started to recall the many
types of food as I was concerned for my yorkies. The Diamond dog food
is a safe food to feed. You can read on their site that they do not
use wheat gluten or rice protein concentrate. DiamondPet |

Diamond dog food company sells their food in many different pet food
stores. Click here

| A
properly bred yorkie should have a pure silk coat. They do not have
dander, shead and do not have fur. |
| Depending
on the breeding, some yorkies have bad teeth and some don't. Some
will loose them at a very young age such as around four to five years
of age. Some will keep them all of their lifes. When a yorkie is around
five to seven months of age they will be getting their adult teeth.
At this time they might retain their canine teeth. If they do they
should be pulled. If yorkies have loose teeth they should also be
pulled because they can get a gum infection not to mention possible
health problems. |
| A
yorkie is not like other dogs. Bathing another type of breed dog every
week can cause the skin to become dry. A yorkie can be bathed once
a week. When I attend shows my yorkies get a bath every day they are
showing. Some times they get a bath four days in a row, two days in
a row... it just depends if I attend a four day show or two day show
etc..... |
| Of
course they are smart little dogs! They can be demanding at times
and can have attitudes also... remember they are a TERRIER! |
If
a breeder sells a puppy to soon of course it will cry at night. If
a puppy is sold at the age of three months the puppy is ready to explore
on its own and depends on people. If your puppy is crying at night...
this is what I suggest... put it in a crate next to your bed. Cover
the crate making sure that the puppy can still get oxgen by leaving
one side of the crate uncovered so air can get through it. If the
puppy starts to wimper tap the crate but don't say a word because
you don't want the puppy to relate it to you. If the puppy starts
to wimper again tap the crate again and continue to do this until
the puppy stops. Your taps might have to be firm taps but not hard
enough to bounce the puppy around in the crate. You only want to correct
the problem not hurt the puppy. |
| Yorkie puppies weigh around three to six ounces at birth. This is why is it so important for a breeder to hold her puppies until three months of age. |
| Some
yorkies have one puppy, some have two, some have three, some have
four. I have had some breeders tell me that their females have had
five to six puppies. A nice size litter for a yorkie to have is two
to three puppies. By having two to three puppies it is easier for
the mother to take care of. |
| Well
this depends on you. Some people have waited six years and some people
have to get one right away. I see it like this... a new puppy can
not replace the dog you lost but it sure can fill the void. A new
puppy will surely be different but it can bring laughter and smiles
and of course love. There is no dog in this world that can't be loved.
|
| Well
believe it or not there are different types of hair that yorkies have.
Some have wiry coats. These types of coats brake all of the time and
are fragile, and then there are cotton coats. These types of coats
are hard to keep up. They do get knots in them easy not to mention
making the dog miserable because it always gets knots. Some yorkies
even have wavy coats. |
| A
yorkie is a small dog and must be protected as much as possible. By
not having a fenced in yard your yorkie could run out in front of
a car and get hit. Also other dogs in the neighborhood can hurt or
kill a yorkie. Not to mention that people like to steal yorkies these
days. It is always better to be safe than sorry. Reputable breeders
are always concerned about their yorkie puppies even after they are
sold. That is why many won't sell their puppies to people that don't
have a fenced in yard. |
| It
is best not to let your yorkie jump at all. Their little legs can
break very easy. A broken leg could cost as much as $4,000.00 in some
areas. I know a person who's yorkie jumped off from a small stool.
The dogs leg broke and it cost her around $800.00 in the emergency
room, then trips to her vets office and xrays... after time the leg
did not heal and the dog needed needed pins and plates in its leg
to help the leg to heal. The surgery was around $1,500.00 to get the
pins and plates put in and then the same amount to get them removed.
|
| Don't
panic... It is seen more common in purebred animals than crosses.
Young un-bred males can "suck up" one testicle when scared
or frightened by the person feeling for the testicle. It can take
at times up to seven to nine months before it comes down. By waiting
your not putting the dog in danger. But if it doesn't drop down then
you are taking chances of the dog getting tumors. I strongly feel
that if a dog isn't going to be bred or shown then they should be
spayed or neutered. Breeding isn't a responsibility to take lightly! |
